I love the drawnblog (tumblr). I’m so inspired whenever I stop by, which can be a bane & a boon since wanting to create is never a bad thing, but the need to focus on one or two projects at a goddamn time would probably help me get things DONE vs. having all these half finished projects lying around. I do, however, love this message and since living my life-like this (as much as possible) for the past year, I have built up a portfolio of writing, drawing, music, painting & digital illustration. I’m simply DOING it. I’m not focused on my next great thing. I’m not judging my lines as being inadequate for some future project that I may or may not get to. And all of a sudden, I have 100+ tumblr sketches, an online portfolio & a catalogue from which I can pitch new projects. It really is easy. Just start now. No, now. NOW NOW. Pick up a pencil. Go to your piano. Turn on your oven. Start making whatever you want to make…now. And don’t forget to catalogue it. You don’t have to publish it like me (the attention/sharing is part of the appeal for me), you can have a private catalogue on sites like Tumblr, WordPress or Flickr. But make sure you do document it, so that if you find yourself questioning the activity or the time you’ve carved out to work on it, you’ll have a backlog of reasons why to keep at it.
