Conté, water-based printing ink, sharpie

I asked myself how much of a picture I could obscure and still achieve cohesion, and a Study in Nothing was born. I had done a few tests with masking on recyclables using paint, or drawing with sharpie where the media was lost either through the darkness of the cardboard (or the printed lettering) or by removing leftover packing tape. I liked that I could compose an illustration and then frame it or change the focus of the picture by removing a large portion of the original piece. This piece was one of my more successful finished pieces.
